Andras Schram Wedding and Portrait Workshop

Last week I had the great fortune of attending a wedding and portrait photography workshop.  It was hosted by Andras Schram and covered everything from business basics, to location scouting, to studio work.  It was amazing to work with and learn from a photographer as awesome as Andras.  The energy that he brings to a shoot truly gets you jonesing to take photos!

The workshop was three days long, the first day was a "classroom" day, and had it not been the first sunny day of the summer, I probably would have been much more stoked to be inside all day.  Day 2 had us shooting an "engagment shoot" and a "bride".  Our models for the workshop were previous clients of Andras's, who so kindly volunteered themselves to let us pose them and take photos.

For the third day we went to Life Photo Studios in the North East of Calgary to learn about different studio lighting techniques.

Jules & Mal Engagement Shoot

I went out with Jules and Mal the other day for their engagement session.  They had scouted out some big ol' burned out trees up near where the "new" golf course will be in Fernie.  I say "new", because anyone who has spent any amount of time in Fernie over the last decade knows that this Course has been promised for about that long....
After a couple shots up with the burnt trees, we went for a little adventure along River Road.  As much time as I've spent biking the trails the finish on River Road, I don't know as I have ever actually driven it.  Thanks for the adventure guys!

I recently had the opportunity to take some family portraits for the Feltin Family.  They were referred to me by some previous clients, Dave & Jenna.  Even though I have lived in Fernie for the last 5 years, I have still never been north of Sparwood.  Now, the furthest north I have been is Line Creek.  We met up on the access road to the Line Creek Mine, and they showed me a couple neat spots in the Grave Plains area.  Thanks Dave and Jenna for referring this awesome family, I think we all had a great afternoon!

Elk Valley Relay For Life 2010

On Saturday I spent the day down at the Fernie Secondary High School outdoor track.  The occaision: the 2010 Relay For Life.  After a week and a half of solid rain, the everyone was wondering what the weather would do on the day.  The day started clouded over, with the threat of rain imminent.  Fortunately, apart from two 5 minute showers, the weather held off, and the day finished with clear skies.

The event was well attended, and even though organizers feared a drop in the money raised, this years total nearly matched last years with over $70,000 raised for Cancer Research.  Thank you to the many volunteers for your time and efforts in organizing this wonderful event!
